Streaming and Subscriptions
We live in a technological age of continuous advancement. That’s about as clear as day. While development varies depending on where you live, we are becoming increasingly dependent on technology as it continues to grow with no end in sight. That’s not what I’m here to talk about though. What I am here to talk about is subscriptions specifically. Perhaps as a microcosm for the digitization of everything, subscription services have completely taken over the way we consume entertainment.
The days of going to a local Blockbuster to a rent a movie are long gone. That much is clear, but even the way in which digitization comes about has changed dramatically. Yes, I’m talking about subscriptions in particular. As an Apple user of sorts, for the longest time, I bought my music on iTunes. In recent years, however, I’ve noticed music streaming services like Apple’s very own Apple Music, as well as Spotify, have been growing.
Much like the way the likes of Netflix and Hulu have dominated video streaming, music streaming has become one of the main modes of our music consumption. Through subscription services, we conveniently have access to all of our entertainment via streaming without any of the physical ownership of the past. Will this be the way of our future?
Signing off,
Henry
