Home Sweet Home

There’s nothing quite like returning home, opening the door, and smelling your own home after being away on an extended trip. In fact, even the feeling of returning home from a long day at work produces this feeling, albeit to a lesser degree.

Since 2020, we have, for a variety of reasons, spent more time at home than ever before. The very notion of WFH(Working from Home), as well as remote work in general, has brought the topic of “home” to the forefront of a variety of issues. Ranging anywhere from talks of productivity in working from home to the more casual topic of home decor and workstation setups, home has, in many ways, become more integrated into our everyday lives than ever before.

Perhaps, this is partly due to the ever-advancing technology at our fingertips, which allows for an unprecedented level of access and convenience eliminating the previous limitations of geography. In any case, I view home as a reset, if not anything else. There is something profoundly comforting and thought-provoking about returning home after a long expedition, whether recreational in nature or work-related.

While the comforts of home often go beyond the symbolic, I do believe balance is crucial. Home serves as an effective contrast to the adventures we embark on in the outer world. It is the comfort zone that balances out the necessity of exiting the comfort zone at times.

Signing off,

Henry
